In the market for a Lowrance Hook or Chirp 5.

Been looking around and prices are all over the place. Any specials or web special to be had?

Thanks in advance.

Prices on the HOOK should be right on shop-to-shop.  The best deals on the older CHIRP just expired.  Since it is discontinued, there are still deals to be found.

I just bought the:

Lowrance Elite-5 CHIRP Fish Finder/ Chartplotter w/ XD 83/200/455/800 Transducer

at Dicks Sporting Goods (online) for $350 + tax free ship. Base maps I believe.

I thought this was a pretty good price considering no rebate to mess with.

Question for Mr. Lowrance Guy if you're watching...Is this the transducer I want for Coastal kayak fishing? I'm hoping to get imaging down to 200 ft and depth readings to 300 ft.

This is what most kayakers use for coastal fishing.  Most power boaters are on the 50/200 frequency for better readings in deeper water & at higher speeds.  With that being said, the 50 freq. will work better for deeper water.  Now, to answer the question on downscan imaging in saltwater (455/800 freq), at your desired depths of 200 I'm inclined to say no ... will it reach it, maybe but the image quality will peter off at that depth in our waters.  Freshwater, more than likely good to go.  DownScan is ideal for structure and the intended structure target is not normally in that type of water depth at its peak performance.  Another factor to take into consideration is transducer installation.  No two installations are identical and thus they don't achieve the same results.  Best results will come from a 50/200 freq. set for the deeper waters you mentioned but most kayak setups are not preformed (ie hobie) for a 50/200.  Catch 22 I guess.  I can say that almost everyone on here runs the 83/200 with the exception of a dedicated handful who almost exclusively fish/troll in those deeper waters & demand the best performance.

Yes ... I'm always watching  :smt002
