I just got a new Hyundai Tuscon with a roof rack, however the antenna sticks up enough that I'll need to have the kayak on it's side  :smt011

Does anyone have an old set of the J-Style cradles?

Well, this has been educational! I just went out and took another look at the Tucson and it looks like it has "aero" style flat bars, and more importantly the antenna isn't a rigid as I thought, it's actually rather flexible.

My main concern now is that the bars are maybe too close to each other to to a good job of supporting my Tarpon 140 upside down. I'll give it a try tonight.

Thanks for the help!

I use Thule Hullivators and  square load bars on my Subaru Outback.  Thule recommends at least 24" between the bars.  Unfortunately, my Subaru side rails only allow about 23 1/2.  I have been hauling my Hobie Revo with this setup for several years and haven't had any problems.  I always run a bow and a stern line for safety.  I think the minimum 24" between the bars is a pretty good guide.  I believe your rack is rated at 220 pounds of evenly distributed weight.  Just make sure you have solid attachment points for the bow and stern lines.
