Lake Del Valle - 02.04.07 - WFO!!!

Got to the lake at 830AM ....expecting to have the lake to myself...apparently EVERYONE  (and his Uncle) had the same idea Boats were anchored between to buoys all the way to the narrows. The "Power baiters" were so thick, you could smell it I knew it was going to be impossible to troll without snagging someones line so I used by bow line and anchored on the first buoy that was sitting on two feet of water BUT right next to a 12 foot channel. The boat next to me had over 40 fish caught and released. Most fish were small, so you had to pick and choose. Unfortunately, these guys were power baiting and most the little fish they released ended up as floaters  As soon as I got settled, I used a little cleo armed with a single siwash hook (for easier release) and started casting towards the channel......and for the next 4 hours, it was a consistent "Huli Ka!" Most were little fish but I used my 4# line - ultra light rod and it was a blast. I lost count on how many I caught  - more likely = 30+ fish - again mostly small (8 to 10 inchers). All those I released swam away with no issues as non were gut hooked.

It was obvious, that these were recently stocked fish as they were not moving very far at all. There was a rental boat power baiting in 3 ft of water that had just as much action.

What a day - my casting arm was SORE but it was worth the effort Kept 5 at the end and made "Mother Mooch" happy

Met a nice fella with a recently purchased white Cobra Fish and Dive - he already knew about our site and will soon be ready to join in with the madness

I knew someting like this was going to happen!!!  Good going though Mooch, glad you got into 'em... especially since we didn't get to do much "Huli Ka!"ing on Saturday.

Sweet!  Those PBers sure do take away from the experience, though.  I enjoyed Saturday's catch as I watched my home team lose the Super Bowl.

yeah....trolling would have been better but casting AND getting results is just as good:smt002 Besides, I did enough trolling at Chabot the day before (Sat.) and was rewarded with one fish for the entire day. I was pooped  Anyway, it was a good break for me to stayed anchored - I hardly ever do it, except when Sturgeon fishing and we all know how I feel about that  The action was too consistent for me to even try going back to trolling. But I hear ya - I love being on the move - the constant change of scenery always keeps me up and about

you betcha - like I mentioned earlier, it seemed like the school never moved the entire day. Some were even caught in 2 - 3 ft. of water. I think it would have been perfect conditions for a fly fisherman
