Maybe a little early, but I'm much anticipating the ocean salmon opener on the 17th of February. I just moved to Fort Bragg in December and don't know the Kayak fishing scene here well. I'm hoping to hook up with some more experienced kayak salmon fishermen for a bit of direction.

It's probably a 2.5 hour drive for you, but I'll be at Shelter Cove as often as I can once it opens.  Look for my reports and maybe we can hook up.  It seems to me that the Cove gets a little more action, especially near shore, than FB area early in the season.

I am also anticipating the opener good launches are noyo and glass beach depending where the fish are, I have the best luck early in the season just outside the reef at mechericher but thats a nasty launch not gor the faint of heart. you are in a good spot for kings with many choices to launch from im going to wait untill the weekend after the opener and see how the party boats do then we will have a good idea of where they are and plan a trip accordingly I live in the bay are but I travel to willits often as my parents live there. if your interested in going out let me know and we can work something out.

I think I'm going to launch off the Mendocino Coast either opening weekend or the week after.

I'm warming up my smoker already.
