More LM Crabs - Sat 02/03/07

Got a 9:30am wake-up call from Fuzz.  He said his diving buddies invited him out to LM to drop some traps.  It was already late, so I wasn't planning to go.  But since my wife and I were invited for dinner at my parents house that night, I couldn't go empty handed.  My wife ordered me to go score some crabs.  Thanks... great idea, babe!

When I got to the beach around noon, Harold had just dropped his traps and a bunch of other guys, including Andrew "MalibuTwo", were already coming back in.

Fuzz and I went out to soaked'em for a couple hours and we both came back in with nice limits.

Harold likes to load his traps with LOTS of bait and as you can see, it pays off big time!!!

Nice! I'm tired of the overnight drops...I don't think they produce as well as one would think.

Interesting note.... when Fuzz and I were chatting OTW, he asked if there were any sand dabs at Linda Mar.  I told him, I never caught any there before.... and guess what....

On the next pull up, I had a nice fat lively sand dab in my trap.  I guess we now know the answer to that question!   

Nice haul guys!!!! Sitting here wishing I lived closer.

What Chuck didn't mention was that I overslept(bed was so much warmer) & was 3 hours late for meeting up with my friends.   
By the time I got there, they were heading in.   


This is the first time I got to go crabbling with Chuck & I must say those smaller lighter traps seem so nice.  His entire setup of 4 traps is lighter & more streamlined than just 1 of my traps.

Was an awesome day out there - unseasonably warm, little wind, & no yard sales on entry/exit 

Did both types of trap design seem about as efficient in terms of catching crabs or did one seem to out fish the other?

Personally, I don't think the type of trap matters as much as...
1)  the location of the drop,
2)  the type and amount of bait used,
3)  and the amount of soak time.

since we're on the topic of crabs, has anyone dropped traps outside of the harbor in Half Moon Bay? After my good haul of dungies this weekend, another friend wants to go crabbing this weekend with me...the swell looks too big for any beach, but I thought the harbor might work. Has anyone done this? Where and how far out would i have to go?

Great harvest guys! How was the surf, Muir has been too big to try by myself lately, but there are dungies to be had there.
