So a while back there was talk about stingrays and I got stung at La Jolla Shores.  It turned out looking like this after a couple weeks.

I finally went to urgent care and when the doctor cut open that purple boil.  The sudden prick of the boil caused some liquid to be sprayed into the good doctor's face.  The rest was a gelatin.  The doctor, after disinfecting herself was intrigued by the gelatinous material commenting how the human body doesn't produce or secrete any gelatinous liquid.

I hate stingrays.

Yup.  That vertical slit on the bottom was the actual puncture.  That was about 5/8".

Can you imaging getting stung in the heart like Steve Irwin..Crikey!

Last July I was breathing up to drop down on this Mexican Hawkfish in 30 FOW.

Right before I descended I noticed what looked like a sting ray lying mostly buried right where I was going to position myself.

So, I regrouped and planned a different approach without disturbing the ray. Upon further inspection of the surrounding area I spotted at least another dozen Cortez rays within a 10 foot radius of the Hawkfish.

That could've been a real cluster f@ck chain reaction.  :smt009

Hope you heal soon.

Not sure what you did following the initial sting, but is there anything you might do differently immediately after?

This is not recent.  It happened a few years ago and only now found this picture.

Tote, next time I will not go to that part of the beach.  The sharks were in and I had my daughter on my shoulders so she could see them.  I was shuffling my feet, but was answering questions from a tourist when a big wave was rolling towards us.  Preparing to brace for the wave I pivot my foot to have my side face the wave and that was the only step I took.  It just happens to be on a stingray.

The next thing I do is make sure the water isn't too hot.  The hot water felt really good but it burned the newly exposed flesh which is what I think caused the blister.

The sharks were at a place where I knew the rays congregated but I figure I had enough experience to not get stung.

I've swam a bunch at LJ shores and the cove.  The Sharks leopards and rays always freaked me out.

Awesome job on the MD facial lol
