Lake Amador

My son Matthew and I fished lake Amador today, on the water at 7:30 am trolled for trout for eight hours we tried pretty much every thing in the box Matthew boated one and lost one other on a blue and white repala broken back. For my self one hookup on the seventh hour it spun the kayak around and the fight was on the fish did an awesome Arial display and spit the lure back at me  well at lest I hook one. The only ones that where doing OK was the Powerbait drifters or on the shore, but it was a beautiful day  , some wind not to bad, great day all in all. One shocking moment when I paid to get in $9.00 day use $8.00 fishing permits each and $2.00 launch fee each for a grand total of $29.00 big ones a bit on the steep side but all in all still cheep entertainment.

Looks like your sporting a downrigger there.  Have you posted before about fishing on the wire?

sorry about the big one that got away. Besides the cost, would you fish there again? It was one of the lakes I was going to check out this spring. How does your son like his downrigger?

Yakuza have never posted about downriggers before, my son and I have always use downrigger in ever boat we have aver owned I am not a big fan of dragging lead on my pole. The downrigger works great I made up a couple of 2.5 lb balls with fends works a hole lot better then the 4lb ball witch is the lites you can find.

Scott yes I would and the spring would be a better time to go the boat traffic was bad there must have been fourth + trollers out there going every witch way I think they where tyring out there new toys they bout from the Sac. boat show.

Hello all, this is Matthew, the one in the pic.  Just wanted to say hello and say that the day was awesome and would love to go again.  The only thing is I wish I could figure out what the fish wanted seeing that the depth finder was pity much making fish all day any where were went from surface to 30 or so feet. Hi Pat, It doesn't look too cold. What was the temp? I fish there every summer use lead core with a worm and caught limits last year  with the yak. Where were you fishing? If I remember correctly the dam is good this time of year. but with the water temps they cam be anywhere. And did you make the downrigger or buy it? I want one.

Miyak the temp 29 in the morning 59 late in the afternoon, we fished pretty much the hole lake, most of the old timers said we should have been hear last week the bit had just shut off. I bout the downrigger at Outdoor Pro Shop in Oakland seemed to be the cheapest place $54.00 Its a Compact Downriggers
