Forebay 1/27/07

Mooch and I arrived around 7:30 on the water about 8. the sky was looking rather gray as we made our way over to the rock wall. There are no weeds left at all after the weed boat ate them all up just a few pieces floating here and there. I was trolling my trusty black, gold and orange stick bait, I don't recall wait Mooch was pulling. I made a pass by my go to spot but did not pick up a bite. I continues down towards the power islands and about half way there it really started to rain. Mooch and I decided to try to make it over to check 12 but about halfway there we decided to turn back since the rain just keep coming down.

We trolled about halfway back down the rock wall when I had a fish on! It put up a decent fight on my 6lb test. I got it close to the yak, it was about 17 inches, and went to grab it with my fish gripper. I lined it up, perfect shot, right on the hook! Perfect release in the water, not what I was going for since I was hoping it would stretch to legal size for the MFF.

We keep trolling back to the corner of the rock wall and I decided to go hit my secret spot. In the middle of the shallow area there is a 8 foot deep section that gets fairly good in the winter when the sun comes out. There was still no sun but I decided to go for it anyways. After a few minutes of trolling I have another fish on. I get this one on board for a measurement, 16.5. Grrr...

At this point it is still raining and Mooch and I decide one more pass at the rock wall then call it a day. This is the second outing in a row I out fished Mooch, I don't think he is going to fish with me anymore 

After loading up we went and scouting Los Banos Creek Reservoir. It is tucked way off the beaten path but looks like a great bass and crappy lake, lots of structure.

Also where to the bass go in the forbay when all the weeds are gone??

I love it!  The problem with being #1...were all gunning for him!  Seriously...sounds fun and glad you didn't get the skunk.

To make matters worse I hear he got skunked today as well...

I am just glad it is not all my fault.

hmm... was he using braid? 

great report bill.  I wish I had time right now to make it down there>  I must before Baby #2 arrives in August.  Soccer ends in a few weeks so I will get back on the water then.

They plant trout at Los Banos Creek Reservoir.  I have gotten 12" to 15" there.  Pretty well protected.  But, the wind can come down the valleys.  Trolling a dodger & worm.  This was before I set up my downrigger, also.

I suspect Bill had rubbed some vicks vapor rub all over my spool when I was not looking The Forebay fish avoided me like a plague  It was nice that we had the entire lake to ourselves....saw only one other demented fisherman...with the weather and all......

Los Banos looks like another place were we can have another MFF for Chef....there are a few water front campsites with trees lined up for good shelter. We also saw a kayak fisherman by the Dam - looked like a yellow P15. Bill left an NCKA sticker the the windshield of the dude's green pickup.

the high lite of the day came when we stopped by In and Out Burger and had a feast.....and to top it off, I got a phone call from Justin at FW...he left me a message saying that a few of the "Magic" discontinued small Risto Rapala lures that mysteriously became available at their sale bin (for 2.99 a piece) Bill and I did the nascar thing and pulled in the FW's parking lot like it was a white flower day sale at Macys  Went straight to the sale bin and I pickled up 9 tiny little risto raps - I think Bill got 7. There are a few left..........
