I'm a free diver from the Bay Area. I've scuba dived and free dived most of my life, and recently took up spearfishing. Mostly I go to Carmel Bay.

I have a Cobra Tandem kayak but haven't done any angling from it, though I'd like to start at some point. I'm a biologist that recently graduated from UC.

Welcome! My friend's band's name is the same as your screen name.

There is no shortage of divers here on the forum, and a lot of them go to carmel bay (Still Water South/SWS) so you shouldn't have any issue finding someone to dive with.

I would say welcome to the madness (WTTM), but it sounds like you've had the madness for some time already.

Btw, which UC? My son just graduated from UCSC with a degree in molecular bio.
Are you pondering what I’m pondering?

Welcome, like you, I'm a long time diver and spearo, but recently picked up a tandem yak which I keep down in Seaside. Open to fishing as well diving, need to add some electronics this year I think. But PM if you need a dive or fishing bud. I got in a nice solo dive before Christmas but have been high and dry since then and watching the marine forecast... Warren
