I've been reading a ton about these newer Okuma reels and the reviews seem to be generally excellent. Anyone have first hand experience with them?

Okuma Cortez
Okuma Komodo (I just purchased one so I'll be able to give a review someday)
Okuma Makaira
Okuma Cedros
Okuma Andros
Okuma Metaloid

I have a Andros. Its great so far. Smooth drag. Maybe its just me but I cant cast well on it.. Birds nest.. Possibly because its spins so freely, and I am using superslick 8 line, and it tends to catch itself. The metaloid is the same internals as the Andros. But outer casing is plastic.

Big thing with Okuma is for them to overcome their previous history to regain customer appreciation of their product.  That will be an uphill battle that they are bound to face for years to come, even if/when they have a good, reliable product line .... imho

I have a cedros, no complaints but have only used it a few times so far. Smooth drag and seems to be sturdy.
Don't do much casting with it as mine is a levelwind

I have one of their Fly reels for a two-weight rod I use on small water.  I got it because of the low price, the low weight, and the fact that replacement spools were cheap, so I only need to bring one reel for two rods.

And the drag on it is great, better than my Orvis reels, and 1/3 the price.

And, I just ordered a Magna levelwind from Okuma for trolling.  I haven't received it yet, but will post my impression when I do.
Fish laugh when I paddle by.  Sometimes they laugh so hard they fall on my hook.

I've seen those reviews..but haven't seen much from the kayak angle. We're pretty tough on our stuff. How do they handle the salt spray?  The specs on the LH Komodo are great, and pricing was good compared to the Lexa and Toro in the same size and LH.  LH is required, I find I can't fish righty anymore.

Every single okuma I've ever owned mid level to high end is crap.extreme fails with one way bearings and just over all quality
My biggest worry is that my wife(when I'm dead)will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it

I have the Okuma 365 it's a beast.  Only thing is make sure you put marine grease in it. Cause it's not water tight.  They can be had even lh, for about 170.  I like the bait clicker, makes bait fishing great.  For lines don't put any superslick, it's horrible on baitcaster.  I like p line a little bit stiffer 30 or 40.  Line capacity is nuts, I got about 300 yards of 30 pound test braid.

LOL, Happy B-day Vince! :smt001
That reel you sold me a while back(revo) is still going strong - I've heard some negative stuff about Okumas and so have chosen to fish other brands - I have one of their fly rods that has worked out so far.

I have the Okuma Citrix and the Coldwater 350 with LC.

I've had them for about 6months and I like them better than the Lexa. Smoother and better drag, plus they both have clickers.

So far no issues, I rinse them after every trip.

Okuma has been making improvements in their product line every year and some of their upper shelf products are top notch. Unfortunately, as a whole, they still have a little ways to go to compete eye to eye with the big 3 (Shimano, Daiwa, Abu Garcia).
With all said, Okuma still offers a great bang for the buck, and an option for those who don't have the option to spend several hundred on a top shelf item.
