New to Santa Cruz to but not to the area. I've never fished Lexington but am looking for the closest freshwater body that's fishable. The lake has been closed since August due to low water levels. Anyone know when that might change? I've heard Lex is not very fishy...has anyone had any success there in the past? Trout, bass, crappie?

it was one of my favorite lakes to fish that was close to home.  only downside is inspections.  maybe with el nino weather, the lake will fill up and open up again.

Ditto on the inspections. It is the closest place to my house as well....hopefully it opens soon.

Is it closed to fishing or water vessels?

In the past Lexington has been very fishable. Stocked with trout and had a population of bass, crappie and bluegill. Its a shame its not used like it was back in the 70's. I really like that lake. The last time I fished it I did catch some bass in the pound, two pound range and my grand daughter had some fun with the crawdads that was about two years ago. I'm guessing it is closed to vessels.

The inspections at all the south bay lakes are pretty strict, and they charge up to 19$ iirc to park, inspect and launch at all of them.  There have been some pretty nice bass caught from Lexington.  We fish the shore for free on the weekends and have a blast during the spring and summer.

Open to fishing.  Closed to vessels.

Haven't planted trout in about a decade.  Nice bass population.  Use to have a good crappie population but haven't heard much about it recently.

Not to threadjack, but does anybody know whether they are draining Lexington (again)? I live just up the hill from Lex and in spite of the rain recently, the level seems stuck at 14%. Or maybe I just need to flush more often...
