Has anyone installed one? I'd love to see pics, it would be nice to have access to the rear for camping storage...Any thoughts would be appreciated! Thanks,
Garen

I found the post by Tote, but the pics are disabled....I wonder if putting a larger rectangular hatch in the bottom of teh tanklwell would be a bad idea.......thoughts on that?
I'd love to see some pics!

I think it's a bad idea. A hatch in a tankwell would tend to suck in any water in the well because of "oil canning". As you bounce around on your yak the flexing alternately sucks and blows on any hull penetrations.(guys don't read to deeply into this!) :smt003 Most yak hatches and rod holders etc. are not 100% waterproof. If your tankwell stays dry, maybe.

You can fit a small round hatch either on the back wall of the tankwell or on the top deck of the rear (which is what Tote did).

I agree with Shim, especially since that area was not designed to take a large hatch.

If rear camping gear storage is your goal... how about some sort of cover stretched over the tankwell to secure gear and keep it from getting splashed.  The Prowler paddlers from New Zealand or Austrailia use something similar and it's fastened by snaps.

Thanks for the thoughts! The hatch Tote has installed is pretty nice, but limited in what you can cram in the 4" hole. When ocean fishing, I'd never use this; the tankwell is plenty large, but when lake camping, the dog sits there. I wanted the extra space in the hull to make up for the space taken by the furball. I think I'll just attach more eyelets for bungees...
Thanks again!

The hatch was put there so I would have access to the inside back for my river anchor system. I have a polyprop strap attached to the inside and use the 4'' hatch to keep my wallet and keys there. Just clip the bag to the strap and it is good to go.

Good one Chuck!
Better catch me BEFORE I arrive to the fishing grounds. By the time I get there all the dinero has gone towards GAS!
