Lake Tahoe 1-28-07 BRUTAL!!!

Contemplated launching because of a little wind. This is what the conditions looked like.


Got yak ready and sat in truck watching the water, trees and such. Wind died down so I decided to launch in 18 degree weather

Saw these filleted carcasses at the boat launch and it convinced me to go for it.




The wind picked up BIG time. The gusts were unbelieveable. The first one lifted my paddle and arms over my head and almost blew me right out of the kayak. After about 5 of these I packed it in.
Had a hard time loading the kayak because there was a solid sheet of ice covering the whole kayak making it super slippery.

Met up with Zilla afterwards and we bank fished the east side to no avail.
Brutal wind made for no love. but I was able to test my new downrigger. As best I could tell in the conditions it worked pretty well. Even with all the ice on it.


Big fat goose egg for the MFF this time. can't wait til the next one.

Mike - I was considering doing this but my cold kept me from travelling very far. Let me know when you go back out again.

Brad / Zilla - how about Lake Tahoe Brown Trout hot spots 

And i'm crying about my numb fingers during the a.m. tie-downs.Way to keep the trip in perspective when the conditions are not good.I will be the first to pull my own plug.

Getting out is 100% BETTER than NOT.

I'm diggin your downrigger setup Tote. I've been considering one for the upcoming Salmon season. There has been some decent Brown trout action on the western arm of Trinity lake this winter.
