McCain nearly had my vote until the VP nomination. I still like him and he keeps showing me why.

The defense Appropriations Bill is head for voting and still full of over $2.8 B in unneeded pork while our troops in the Middle East theater are underfunded. Obama stood shoulder-to-shoulder with McCain even praising his stand on it sometime back and said he'd veto a bill with pork in it. McCain is asking him now to fulfill that pledge and Obama seems to be waffling. We know why--because he's in a no win situation: 1) he doesn't veto and the pork passes and McCain (rightly) criticizes him for going back on his word or 2) he vetos the bill and Rush, Fox, and the Republican Congress launch in to vitriolic tirades about his not supporting our fighting men in the Middle East.

Tough. They blast him already at full volume so he won't know the difference--he should veto or it's -1 for him. Congress, both aisles are the ones not supporting our troops by taking money away for pork and lobbyists for the defense industry. Let's see how tough the guy is.

I could have written that post.

Like you, picking Palin really made me doubt McCain's judgment, but for the most part I've always thought well of him. He's a little too slow on the uptake for my tastes, in terms of being president, but he serves AZ and the country well in the senate.

O will probably end up next to Carter in the history books, both blamed, in essence, for not cleaning up other people's messes adequately. For the most part I think pretty highly of him, but he gets too squishy in his eagerness to be centrist, almost compromises before the actual negotiation with the Rs.

Yep. Can't win. I wonder when the right will quit angling for O's "waterloo" and start thinking about the welfare of the country? I won't be holding my breathe.

Yeah, to a non fishing website. :smt003  If you political junkies absolutely have to come to NCKA to get your fix or spread your words then maybe you guys could ask Bill to start a Partisan Politics Non-Fishing related forum. I'm not saying that would be good for the continued health of NCKA but it would create a little fenced off area for people that want to throw blows to play in. You won't see me hanging there if it happens.
That way those of us that only click on these types of posts to see if they just might have some relevance to kayakfishing don't have to waste our time.  :smt012  Thanks, jim

Yep, sorry, I meant to post in General like the healthcare stuff was posted (which has nothing to do with fishing either BTW) though no one seems to worry unless it's certain posters. But once posted I couldn't move it and needed to get to work. Sorry for being in the wrong forum and I agree with the move 100%. I only posted this to give equal time nothing more since I railed before for the other side. Karmic balance restored.

So let me get this right now that you've made it clear: healthcare involves everyone, but defense spending pork doesn't??? Not following that logic at all--it doesn't wash in the slightest. And the healthcare debate is far more polarized along party lines--the protesters are carrying pictures of Oabam Hussein, Obama the communist--more than just health care. Haven't seen those kind of signs about defense pork at all. Never. Second fail on your argument. I am not buying it at all.

pm sent. Trying to explain not argue. I agree defense spending is also important to the USA but also not related to kayakfishing. The title of the healthcare thread made it pretty clear no kayakfishing was going to be discussed but when I see McCain and Obama's names as the post title I'm thinking oh oh what crappy laws did they pass now to screw us kayakfishers. jim
