Look what a little birdie brought me. :smt007

Brother Mike.....I recently bought a dozen at FW :smt002 Papa Bill and Scott Thornley got a few themselves :smt003

Apparently, FW gets a big box of goodies (mostly discontinued lures) every now and then from their supplier - that goes directly to their sale bin. I got a call from Justin (who works at FW) the day the shipment came in.

I believe it was $2.99 a piece - an awsome deal for a GREAT lure for any species.

How many did you get?

Unfortunaly they don't - it a great lure for clear water conditions AND I like it because it's made out of balsa wood so you can use 4 to 6 pound mono and get a good cast out of it. The Shad Raps are light and are hard to cast even with the lighter line. The action to it also has a tight wiggle which in my opinion, makes it easier for the fish to target (just like the SR)

These Risto Raps are da bomb  :smt023 Why they discontinued making it = bothers the hell out of me  :smt013

And while Joel likes the size 4 and 5 Risto's, don't shy away from the 7-9 size. A 12" fish has no qualms hitting a size 9 when they are aggressively feeding.

I went by FW, and due to the fact I have a ton of little trout lures and hardly ever actually fish for trout,
maybe a few times in the spring is about it,  I did not buy the 4 4cm ristos left.  amazing self control, eh?  :smt004

:smt013 okay, I did!  :smt007  actually I did leave one hot mustard color one there to be polite...  :smt003

what is it with me and little wooden fish?  :smt010

I guess I can always sell them to mooch for big $$$$ when I am 75 and he is 69 and he has just used up the
last of his stash...

so they seem a lot like a shadrap, same bill, same tall narrow profile, just a little less elongated.  same lack of
rattle, same balsa construction.

seems like they might cast a tiny bit better, but not a whole lot.

My guess is they are discontinued because they are so similar to the shad rap in the end.

you want to cast, get a real crank bait or a lipless crank or a countdown rapala!

mooch do you have any of the rattlin rapala, rapala's lipless crankbait? I have a few 1.5" ones. they cast great.

those are also discontinued. I guess they can't bust into the ratl trap market.

thornley, I have some 7cm shadraps and nothing has hit them yet while the 5cm ones have several fish to them
already. I think mooch is right, the smaller the better for these trollable mini cranks.

Mooch, you should check out the yo-zuri snap beans, they are 3/4" and 1" and are castable. very slow sinkers tho.

John,

Let me put it this way. I picked up about half a dozen fish, 12" to  to 3.5 lbs out of SCR this last spring alone. On a size 9 Tennessee Shad  Risto.

I didn't throw any up at Lake of the Pines this year, as by the time I had the Risto crankbaits, the weeds were in full growth. And when that happens, it's just too easy to catch fish on wacky Senko's, and a major pain to fish anything with trebles.

I did use a size 8 Silver/Black Risto up at "Secret Lake", and picked up some fish there too. These fish are rather stunted, so I was catching fish to 10". But they are amazingly aggressive though. And for people that are interested, "Secret Lake" is real close to the Flemish Cap.

scott, thanks for the tip! They don't seem to be stocking SCR this year yet. maybe the water is too low?
a bummer for use west bay types that would like to do a little trout trolling.

btw,  a mann's 5+ is real similar to a risto rap in configuration.
