I have tried to no avail to rivet my scotty mount to my Ocean Kayak. Are there longer rivets available? I bought the rivets from the Kayak store and they seem to be only one size. The rivets don't go all the way into the boat, because the mount is too high at it's base. No problem with the flush mounts

whats the length measurement of the rivets you have?  i have always mounted with nuts and bolts and a backing plate made of cutting board.  but nowadays i use track systems instead.

Forget the rivets.  Use 3/8th in well nuts.

If you can reach it from the inside of the hull, use s/s fasteners whenever possible; and, drill the hole slightly smaller than the thread of the screw and kinda tap it into the plastic. Then tighten the nut (w/nylon insert) without the screw turning; this will create the best seal possible from water entering the hull.

If you can reach it from behind; then use these pop rivets, with amply silicon to minimize water intrusion:

I went with a flush mount and it took to the rivet just fine. I will use the Scotty on my 2 nd yak which has access to the back of the holes I need to drill .
