I have a truck with the racks over cab and it is getting really hard for me by myself to pick up the kayak and throw it up on the j low rack. I have the Yakama Jlow on factory roof rack

Whenever possible, I carry my kayak directly on the load bars; sometimes I use the rollers and mako pads.

I do have Yakima J racks on the truck, but they are only there to carry kayak if I win a tourny :smt003; or if I need the load bars to carry my Tepui tent...

Maybe its time for you to invest in Hullavators. Ive seen one in action and was very impressed. I have the same setup as yours minus the J-racks on top of my cab, but I only use it when I'm carpooling with someone else. On solo trips, I use my little car.

My neighbor had some medical issues so for long road trips when can't just throw kayak in the back of his truck he attached a 12v cable winch on the front crossbar, he straps the kayak to half of an old extension ladder, then he grabs the first rung of the ladder and winches the whole thing up on the truck rack, he has some kind of pipe around the back crossbar that rolls. Since the winch hook is around the rung when the sides of the ladder are pulled far enough forward they rest on either side of the winch on the forward crossbar, then he straps down the ladder to the crossbars. I wasn't sure what he had planned when I saw him installing it but it works and saves a lot of lifting. When not in use he just covers up the winch and electric cable that he attaches to the truck battery for power. I think he bought a harbor freight winch for 30 or 40 dollars.
