What kind of plastic are our kayaks made from?

 One of the head designers at Ocean Kayak has told me that all Ocean Kayaks are made from high density linear polyethylene. I thought that was interesting because the web site says they use a medium density. So apparently they need to upgrade the info on  the website.The high density is the best product available for what we do. I believe most other high end brands use the same. Do any other pro staff out there know what density poly your represented kayaks are made from? Thanks. Craig

HDPE from Wildy last I was told. My new kayak came with the recycle arrows with the number 2 in the middle.

Just checked before posting and it is HDPE and that is what the symbol stands for.

Plastic #2 – HDPE (High Density Polyethylene)

Plastic #2 is typically opaque and picked up by most curbside recycling programs. This plastic is one of the 3 plastics considered to be safe, and has a lower risk of leaching.
It’s found mostly in milk jugs, household cleaner containers, juice bottles, shampoo bottles, cereal box liners, detergent bottles, motor oil bottles, yogurt tubs, and butter tubs.ilk jugs, detergent bottles, juice bottles, butter tubs, and toiletries bottles are made of this.  It is usually opaque. This plastic is considered safe and has low risk of leaching.
Plastic #2 is recycled into pens, recycling containers, picnic tables, lumber, benches, fencing, and detergent bottles, to name a few.

And apparently kayaks.
