It stated that it was do in part from the bait fish they are eating. I would hope that if that included mackerel or other types of baitfish that people eat we would be warned . Hope someone with this type of knowledge can weigh in.

As I read it, they closed anchovies, mackerel, etc at the same time. I talked to a warden here Saturday about mussels, and she told me the way the regs are written for those, if Cal Dept of Public Health issues a high-level warning, that closes the season on mussels. Weird; I had no idea DFW regs were like that for any species.

The toxin is found in the gut of anchovies mostly. To a lesser extent in sardines.

It couldnt be all the  antidepressants and other drugs like birth control pills people pee,pooh or flush down the toilet could it? That would make them lethargic and disoriented. I bet they are out there throwing fish stuffed with methamphetamines at the sea lions at fishermans warf.

This is one thing I've been thinking about...every other year there are stories on the local news about disoriented seals and/or birds, that need to be "rescued" due to domoic acid poisoning. But I haven't seen or heard much about it this year, ironically!

I wonder if the pre-signs to this were all the seals this year in need of food despite the bay being LOADED with bait/food?
