I decided to do Striper fishing on Friday morning, so I brought my bigger rods and frozen Anchovies to do some trolling and drifting with cut bait. I started working the west side in front of the resort soaking cut bait for an hour with no luck. I then headed downriver toward Ryde trolling a striper jig with not even a nibble. After 3 hours I got frustrated and went to the east side of the river to try catching some smallmouth bass and caught 3 bass. I then started trolling for stripers again back to the launch ramp. Still nothing. After 5 hours, I called it a day and decided to try Wimpy's on Saturday for a change of pace.

This morning I pull into Wimpy's and every bass boater in the county has the same idea as me. So I head back to Ko-Ket with my lighter bass rods and gear, and decide to float with the incoming tide toward Walnut Grove fishing the tree line. I round the bend and all the way to the car ferry, I see birds hitting the water and bait fish jumping out of the water. I immediately put an XRap on my trolling rod and toss the lure in the water and "start chasing the splashes". I put a 3 inch swimbait on my casting rod and cast as I go. The stripers were chasing the bait into the shallow water on the east side of the river and I finally caught my first striper of the season. It was only a 10 incher, but it is a start! After a half an hour (about 9 AM) everything stopped, so I started smallmouth bass fishing again and caught about 10 sm bass. The pictures are the largest bass caught on Friday and Saturday mornings.

What a difference a day makes!

Way to stick with it! Good to know the smb's are on the bite. Wimpy's  can get crazy this time of year. When the gates are up, every one wants to save a buck, so they launch at wimpy's or new hope.

Thanks Chris. I was wondering what was going on with all of the bass boats, the boat trailer parking was full all the way to the street at 8 AM. I never thought about the gates being up.

Good luck at Ko-Ket on Monday!

Thanks for the report and pictures WST120.

Thanks, Sailfish. I hope to post some nice striper pictures before my kayak season ends for the winter.
