Launched at China Camp yesterday with a friend around 9 am.  We hugged the shoreline heading past McNears and around the corner along the rock wall by the Brick Yard and paddled out to the Marin Islands.  We finally paddled west towards San Rafael.  Caught 4 school stripers on a Rapala surface lure.  We finally headed back to China Camp.  All of this was mostly on the outgoing tide.  Got back a little after 2 pm.  Felt like I was beaten across the shoulders with a baseball bat.  I should point out that I'll be 70 next year and by buddy is only a little younger. I noticed a sign on the way out that there would be a triathlon this weekend and the road to China Camp would be closed.  Is there somewhere closer to the  Brick Yard that we could launch?  There is a beach right at the turn going towards the Brick Yard and it looks good to launch, but when we drove back it was all mud.  Can you launch at Loch Lomond?  If so, how much is it?  Is there any other place close to the Marin Islands and the Brick Yard to launch?  Thanks.

Loch Lomond I think $10 to launch.

According to their site, the lake is closed and no outside boats that aren't already stored there are allowed.

Huh?  He's asking about Loch Lomond Marina in San Rafael!

Ed, you can launch at that bend by the brick yard when the tide is right but they've put up no parking signs all along there. Not sure if there's parking across the street or nearby.

You can also launch from Paradise Beach Park. It's now in winter hours so it opens at 8 & closes at 5 but parking is only $5. Pretty easy launch just south of the parking lot. Bring wheels. Also watch the tide. It's not as bad as China Camp when the tide goes out but can still leave you in the mud. http://www.marincounty.org/depts/pk/divisions/parks/main/info

Loch Lomond is free and there is live bait available at the launch. There is also another good fishing store a mile or two to the west on your way to the boat launch. I've fished here a few times with Jim of the Intertidal, Stripers come right up into the marina. Just remember that after you drop your boat off near the ramp, or at the ramp, to park your car outside the sliding chainlink fence in the dirt lot, not a huge deal because the launch is free. They also have a hose to wash of your boat/gear. Can be a busy boat launch in the early afternoon, DFG is often around (have you license within reach), and follow the rules / be courteous around the Marin Islands.

Thanks for your responses.  This gives us some options.   After our trip yesterday we had a talk about old guys and time limits.  This should cut some of the time, and rowing our of our outings.  I forgot to mention in my report that the conditions were very good.  No wind and calm water.

The little beach by the brickyard (chapel cove) is fine as long as you are out before the tide hits 1.0.
You can park there now. They left a 100yard section for parking starting about where the garbage can is. Other than that it is a no parking bike lane zone.
Loch Lomond is also building two dedicated kayak launches - one to the left as you face the ramo, and a second one on the far East side....Eastside one looks like it'll be sweet.

I fished that area twice last year. Caught a few schoolies trolling hair raisers . I launched right out of Loch Lomond marina.  Keith Frazier was there and let me launch free. He was very friendly and enthusiastic.  Best bite both times was right out in front of the marina btw ..
