Hey guys,

My names Vaughn. I've been lurking for a minute but trying to get in on a dive now.. I have a few questions for you NorCal( Monterey especially  ) Spearos...

1.).   What thickness free diving gloves should I buy? Also, what brand do you prefer?

2.)  What do you think about me getting a Mako or a Rob Allen speargun? I'm on a budget.  Also PLEASE include a size I've been trying to this  figure out since I'll be mainly fishing Monterey waters.

3.)  Anyone new or vet want to link up I'm up for it I'm trying to find buddies. :)

Thanks maximum..

Welcome aboard.

Typically 5-7mm gloves gloves are used in N cal but there are always those who can handle more cold or get hot quicker and have to adjust.  Typically the thicker the glove the harder they are to use with regards to flexibility.  I shred gloves and have not found one yet that I will definitely buy again.  But if you need dive socks I am sold on the Argos socks.  They hold up really good.

Both of those guns are good for beginners but might be better to get a used gun at a discount and then upgrade when you have tried a few other guns to see what you like.  I have a Rob Allen 70 tuna gun and a Pathos 60 and 75 and I use them all in Nor Cal.  I have used the Mako also and it shot straight so for a budget gun you will be fine with any of them.

Post up when you want to dive and many times you will find someone who will go out with you.

Thanks for the welcoming guys!
Also thanks for the advice DG, I guess I'm gonna look for a used gun in the 60-75 cm range.

I'll be in contact looking for dive buddies soon peeps!

Cheers!
