I have a Fish-n-map of the Sacramento which lists a "fishing access" near the outflow gates of Butte Creek/Slough.  I can't find any other reference to it.

Anyone know about it and whether you can stick a kayak in the water?

You're talking about the gates on Butte Slough just before it enters the Sacramento River ? Sounds like Ward's Landing if I'm thinking of the same spot that you're describing. There is indeed a boat launch there as well.

Butte slough, or butte creek as we call it empties into the sac at wards landing. There is no access there except in the river but you can't get into butte creek from there. If you drive south from there on butte slough road You go down off of the levee and come to a "T". I think it's called Marty road. Anyway turn right at the "T" and go a couple miles until you go over the levee. This is Mawson bridge. Pull off on either side of the road before you cross the creek. Plenty of people fish there so you can launch and leave your car parked.

Thanks for the info!  I'll contact the fish n map people.  I checked the place that they marked and there's a hole in a fence but not much else that indicates a access.

Wards landing was listed separately so that wasn't it.
