Launched out of Ko-Ket this morning at 7:30 AM and paddled to the west side to drift with the incoming tide. I was catching smallies in the 12-13 inch range using a 5" Pearl Senko. The bite died off once the river bend ended. I decided to try the east side of the river along the tree line, since I had not fished that section before.

I started casting to the shade line expecting to catch large mouth bass and caught my first 16" smallie of the day. Drifted about 200 yards catching several more smallies. I decided to troll my Rapula back to my drift start point and caught several smaller bass trolling. Did one more drift as the incoming tide was ending.

I went back to the west side of the river to my favorite spot while waiting for the tide to change and was not getting any bites, so I switched to a 4" Watermelon colored senko and caught my second 16" smallie. Caught several more smaller bass before calling it a day. I caught over a dozen smallies this morning.

A beautiful morning on the water.

Nice action! That bottom fish looks more like a Spotted Bass than a Smallie.

You could be right. I suck at fish identification, so I better start learning the difference! Thanks for letting me know.

I read your post on the preserve. What a mess.

I fished Ko-Ket again this morning. What a totally different fishing experience. I only caught four fish in four hours...

Sounds like you had a good day and a rainbow to cap it off! Next week sounds good to me. I will send you a PM as soon as I know which days I am available.

Thanks Fishworks.  I'll be hitting the west bank again this week and I should be drifting by barefoot1's place with the AM tide. I have one salmon rig in my kayak just in case I get tired of bass fishing.

Been busy deer hunting, back to Delta again this weekend maybe.  For those smallies I go to the bargain tables at BPS or Big 5 and buy a bunch of cheap hardbaits that resemble rattletraps.  Cast right next to or onto the rocks.  I often get hit just as I start the retrieve from the rocks.  Cheap hardbaits, so I don't mind beating the paint off them.  Tube jigs work great too.  Here is my X12
3 X 3.  He fell victim to the trusty model 94.
