Thinking of taking the kayak to the Capitola kelp beds to try for some rock cod and maybe a ling or two. Is this still a fairly good area or is it just to close to the city to be worth a try.   Thanks Robert

Any area can be "on" or "off" depending on the swells, tides, etc.  Are you concerned about the proximity to the city being "fished-out/over pressured"... and to which city are you referring (serious questions)?

There are spots very close to SF that produce fish.

Check out the capitola boat and bait website, and look for suggestions there on what areas are producing.  You can get a map at the store that shows the common reefs people fish.  The kelp beds can produce, but usually not as much as the rocky areas further out, in my experience.

Thanks for the reply's  yes I was concerned of the area being over pressured due to the close proximity of Santa Cruz. I checked out the Capitola Boat and Bait web very nice Thanks. Is there a beach area I could launch from?    Thanks Robert

You can wheel down to the beach on the right side of the wharf as you look at it.

Yes, there are fish in Capitola, but none in Santa Cruz...

Just yesterday, Caught 3 of these between me and my buddy (shown in photo).. Tons of rockies always in Capi.. Hey you may even run into a flatty or two... I don't keep any rock fish in Capitola as they are so abundant.. If I get a 24"+ ling.. or Halibut thats a different story... I usually park at New Brighton and paddle to the end of Pleasure Point between the SC3 and Mile Bouy. 38th reefs are good too..

Good luck...
