Considering the fairly good reports for various bay spots I think I will be trying somewhere in the bay Saturday.  Looks like low tide (0.0) around 10am so I want to hit a spot that I can get out of.  Looks like light winds in the morning rising to 15-25 in the afternoon so we should hit it early.

Anyone else game, iff so where do you want to go?

I'm game...

I'm leaning toward Alameda because the current didn't seem to muddy the water up too badly through there and it seems like good potential to hold fish with all of the structure and bottom contours through there.

I'd also consider Berkeley, but it gets muddy unless you go way out there.

Paradise is usually picking up this time of year, but it's a pain in the buttocks to launch at Paradise Park Pier... and there is a lot of current movement through there as well... gets muddy on big tides.

Never been to Oyster Point or Treasure Island... so I'd have to hear more about those places from someone who's been there.

I'm game for other spots too... just want to make sure they will have good water visibility on a big tide so da Butts will see da bait.

Don't launch at paradise pier- launch at paradise cay!  That's dead easy- nice little marina, free boat launch...and directly infront of the flats.

Last time i was down there, they had the barge pulled up on the launch- you could still launch, but it was more or less in the way.  That was a couple of weeks back, so i'm hoping they've moved it by now

I've lauched at both places, but this time of year I like to fish the deeper water out in front of Paradise Park Pier.  Have caught halibut out of there in 30ish feet of water the last couple of years in the latter part of May.  Best if it's fished during the flood tide though.

Alameda sounds good to me. I have a cast net so if someone can point me to a good bait spot I will try to make bait for us.

From Coastside:

Around 9:30 we moved down to the Alameda rock wall and boxed a 17#er for three hours effort.

Last time I was there, the bait was stacked in corner of the L. Maybe paddle all the way out there, get out and toss from the jetty? Anyways - GL

I'll probaby try to get down there (Alameda) by about 6:00 or so.  I'll bring a cast net and a sabiki rig as well to try to scratch up some bait (but I suck at throwing the net... better practice).

Any pointers on good locations to scratch up some bait?  Anywhere in the north bay that would be convenient to hit on my way through?

Saw this in Brian Hoffman's fishing report... rings a bell with what I thought I hooked into last outing at Alameda...

"Gilbert Hug of Alameda was at his local rockwall last Wednesday, fishing in the rain. There were birds working over schools of anchovy and smelt, right up against the shore, and he and a friend made bait and cast out. Hug was baited up with a small jacksmelt, which eventually was hit by something large. Very large. He fought the fish until it jumped, twice. And then he fought it the rest of the way to shore. Measured and weighed, Hug had landed a soupfin shark of 79 inches, 103 pounds ..."

Wow... that story does similar according to Erik and Duane except for two things --- 1) Erik was on a kayak... and 2) Erik didn't land his.... Sorry :smt011

BTW, Duane and I tried the Rockwall again yesterday.  I fished from 7:30-10:00 using the nice live jacksmelt that Duane netted up.  I'm not sure how much later Duane stayed. The wind laid down as predicted and it was flat calm 8:30 to 10... but we still got skunked again.   Damn.. I hate the Rockwall :smt013 ...but it's just so conveniently close.
