Has anyone fished Big Sur in late October? Is it a bad idea for any reason? I have a camp site booked with some friends and was going to drag the kayak along and do some fishin in the mornings. Should I bother? I would launch out of LimeKiln right? Is it sharky out there? Should I bring a crab trap? Sorry for all the questions. Send me a PM if prefered. Thanks!

Sharktober?? Jk, I'm not sure about shark attacks out there since not many of us fish there enough. I don't see that many furbags down there (that's always a plus)

I wouldn't recommend a crab trap. It's a gnarly surf launch so i keep it as simple as possible. Keep an eye on the surf and swells report. Since it's really remote be prepared and fish with a buddy. If things go south, no one is gonna be able to help you quickly.

yeah not many of us fish down there to give any Intel on sharks and the ones that do fish down there don't really post any reports.
Check swell condition. LimeKiln is not a place you take lightly. we were there a few months ago and i believe it was 4-6 and it was windy and nasty.
to put into perspective a 175 lb man fell down holding the front of the kayak dragged out with the wave on the sand. i saw him going out but he wont let go and I yell at him 3 times before he let go. I say bring your kayak but if it's rough just don't launch.

ive fished october in Limekiln.  really hit or miss with the weather, but fortunately have really HIT a few times to highly productive glass conditions.  absolutely NO on the crab traps.  Simple simple simple.  plan for a yard sale, dress for immersion, and have a paddle buddy.  If you call a mayday, its gonna be forever before anyone comes, if they pick up the call at all.

Thanks guys. This was helpful. I'll pack a beater rod and a few swimbaits. will only launch if conditions look good.

if you don't mind some walking and carrying down some stairs, 5 miles south of Limeklin the beach there is more calmer and protected by rocks from 2 sides. we went there when it was 5-7 swell and it was doable but still know what you are doing. (other places down there) you can forget about it. and the fishing ground is not far from the the launch.

I will check that out for sure. Is there a beach name or landmark I should look for?

Uh....yes.  It is sharkey.  And honestly, October (the fall), is coincidentally one of the busiest months for them, statistically.  Not trying to scare you, just the facts.
