Heading out to clearlake to do our annual camping trip aug 21, and i had a few questions.  It looks like i will not be kayaking, since none of my friends are into that kind of stuff. But we do fish, so it will be done from shore.  Campsites are in the kelsey creek area by the bridge. at the tip of the island, never been there but from seeing google maps it looks like its a pretty sweet spot.

We will be targeting catfish mainly, but will be trying for bass as well. My question is, do they allow nighttime fishing there? Or even at the campgrounds? What are the regs like at clearlake?

Secondly, we are looking to do at least one day of boating, does anyone know a rental place closeby? Me and my friends are interested in Water spots, tubing, or just chilling on the water with a big boat.  There's a possibility i might rent a fishing boat.

Any tips are appreciated.  Thanks in advance

Yes you can fish Clear Lake at night. The regulations, there the same California regs. Take the kayak anyway and share it your friends might like it. Im sure you could find a boat rental somewhere around the lake but its a big lake. Please be safe if the winds come up on the water.

I use disney rentals (not affiliated with Walt disney)they have jet skis, ski boats pontoon boats.the last time I was out there I rented a Pontoon and had it for 8hrs ended up giving them 551$ that's with the charge of gas.they're located in Lakeport
Lake is low so look for some deeper waters during  the day
My biggest worry is that my wife(when I'm dead)will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it

I've camped there plenty. It's busy in the Summer. If I understand correctly, you have a sweet campsite! I think you have beach access, if so, you stand a real good chance at catfish from shore there.
They keep the bathrooms pretty clean and law enforcement patrols the campground very regularly.
Have fun!
If you don't know where you're headed, any road could get you there.

+1 on the bug spray if you're anywhere near the water.  You'll be eaten alive at dusk.  ...I was.

++1 on bringin the yak.  Tow it around with whatever rental you get.  Perfect place to practice self rescue and to gain your friends' interest.

Late post, but i did indeed bring the yak. Was too busy to really paddle, did a lot of drinking so felt too hungover to get on the water. Decided to toss out makerel for catfish on friday night and landed this guy at about 1am.

The fight felt like a 3lber until it surfaced and when i tried to grab it it started trashing.  Probably was half asleep.

I was so hammered at that time, didn't measure or weigh but it was at least 15lbs and at least 36".  Took a while to take in the fact that this is like one of the biggest fish ive ever caught.  cooked it up a few different ways and there was so much of one catfish our whole camp didn't even finish it in 2 meals. Very tasty though.

Didn't do much fishing after, since that guy was pretty much a showstopper, just ended up chilling with my friends playing poker.  I did kindda regret not going out on the kayak to fishfor bass since everyone was saying its one of best lakes for bass. Oh well, next time.
