This year, I've gotten tendinitis (also spelled "tendonitis") in my feet, wrists, and my left elbow---and now it's just starting to happen in my right elbow too. None of it is too severe, but once it pops up in a joint, it never seems to go away.

I pedal a Hobie, and I certainly think a lot about ergonomics. Everything is arranged to be within easy reach, no awkward twists or turns needed, and so on. I do pedal a lot, since I mostly troll, but mostly slow and easy. I'd always figured that my back and knees were the most likely to give me trouble, but those are not a problem at all, at least so far.

Anyways, it seems strange to me that all of these things would happen this year, especially since I'm not using the kayak any more than I was in the last couple of years.

Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated...

Sorry for your troubles.  My upper body has been angry with me for years.  That's why I got the hobie in the first place.  It helped me go a lot further on the water.  Everyday is not perfect but sometimes I push through the pain and other days I limit my movements for the joints that are hurting.

Try to have fun while dealing with your pain.  Your emotional health will suffer if you stay off the water for to long of periods.

Have you been checked for gout?  Sounds like it.

Otherwise... changing diet, gentle warm up routine, more stretching, and popping some Infantry candy (Motrin) might help after a day on the water.

When I hit 36, my knees started to tell me I was aging. When I hit 38, my shoulder told me it didn't like the activities of my youth. When I hit 40, my lower back said, "I will exact my revenge on you..."  At a certain point, the body starts saying, "Take it a little easier, man."

Common in people with diabetes.  Also common in people with gonorrhea.
Gout and rheumatoid arthritis will cause it.

Acupuncture.

not kidding.

Worked wonders for me.

Also, if you're doing any kind of other repetitive motion stuff for a day-job, changing that up can be a lifesaver.  I've got a desk 9-5er, and changing to a partially seated/ standing workstation helped a ton.

Unfortunately, so does drinking a lot less beer than I used to.

Thanks for all of the suggestions (well, most of them anyway...). There's a couple of things that were mentioned that I'll definitely give a try. I'll report back in a while if I have any luck (or not).

3oz Aloe, 3oz pineapple juice and a dash of cayenne pepper 3 to 4 x daily paired with the acupuncture might have you feeling much better.

aloha,
