Awesome day. Tried for halibut first thing but no luck. So off to the rocks. Met up with "sea_cbuke" and found the rockies. He had something big on for a 15-20 min fight but ultimately lost it. The wind picked up around noon and we headed in. I kept 2 verms a big black and a bigger olive. My fish count for the day was 11. Sorry no pics. Over all a great day, nice fish for not really finding any big rock piles.

Thanks for the report.

Just curious whether anybody has been catching halibut out there. Also, is there much bait about?

The anchovies were boiling near the kelp. Guys have been getting halibut near the beach hotel. But it sounds like santa cruz is the place for butts

I caught an undersized butt between the red can and the first yellow can in about 100 FOW on Saturday. I'm gonna head north for one pretty soon

Thanks for the update. Sounds like you had a decent day out there. Also as far as the halibut go, I have been out there the last couple of weekends and while I have heard rumors, I have not actually seen anyone land one.

Like Pablito mentioned, I think Santa Cruz is still the best bet for Halibut.

The last couple times I was out in SC, I couldn't find much bait, other than small anchovies. On Sunday, I dragged a sabiki all the way from the harbor to Natural Bridges and back and got nothing but a few small rockfish on it. The week before, there was tons of mackerel, jack/spanish mackerel, and more.

I had the same experience in Monterey on Saturday. Had my sabiki in the water constantly and couldn't even get a mackerel. Finally got one on my halibut squid rig while I was reeling up...hit the bottom and was instantly gobbled up by a dinky ling :smt013 :smt013 :smt013 :smt011 :smt011 :smt011 The blues were relentless on my sabiki too. I suck at making bait :smt005

Question is what area of SC.   The one time im out there I wondered a total of 5 miles and found where rockfish like to hang out.  Figures it where most of the PB are.   North of the boardwalk around and past the lighthouse.  I dont no where to start for halibut.
