It's been taking me a little longer than I've wanted to compile the necessary gear to get out on the water safely and properly.  Now that I've gotten most of whats needed to be safe OTW, I'm beginning to collect the actual fishing gear, rods and reels first off, then all the other stuff, net, tackle, bait bag, etc.  Just got these 3 rods and 2 reels of a nice gentleman by the name of Adam who fishes from a boat (boo, haha jk, if only I had the $$$).  We discussed fishing around the Santa Cruz area and among other things he told me to be ready to see some sharks  :smt009.  Anyways, here's the new (to me) rods and reels.  I'm interested to hear what y'all think about them and whether or not I spent my money wisely.

^^Wright and McGill 8' 6" 2-piece Granger Steele with an Abu Garcia Ambassadeur Royal S

^^Lamiglass 7'6" Muskie 10-40lb with an Abu Garcia Ambassadeur C4-6600, the Abu was purchased new as a gift to me from my parents.

^^Shakespeare Ugly Stick Tiger 7' 20-50lb Sigma with a Penn Senator 3/0, and my critter removal technician, master of doors and the toilet, Ms.Meowgi.

I'd like to add that these reels are almost spotless, minus a bit of surface rust on the Penn.  The rods all look to be in good condition as well, with no unwrapping of the eyes and solid tips.  Am I gonna be able to make some good catches on these setups?

All depends on how good of a fisherman you are
My biggest worry is that my wife(when I'm dead)will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it

You're bound to read about the member stories of lings caught on barbie/mickey mouse/batman rods with kiddie spinning reels. I think you'll be just fine. Match some good line within the specs of those rods and have some fun out there with your new weaponry!

Looks good.  Put some 50lbs braid on those reel n you are good to go.  Put masking tape on spool so braid does not spin on you.  For the bigger reel add some mono first to fill in the spool then the braid and top off with about 6' 15-25lbs mono.

Driving a honda civic will get you to the same place, as a mercedes..  Same goes for fishing gear.

Just the expensive ones tend to be more comfortable.

Much more comfortable!  I mean, the civic dealership isn't going to let you drop off your car on a Friday, shuttle you to the airport, then pick you up at the end of the weekend with your freshly detailed Mercedes.  I do get you though, at the end of the day, the tools are the same.

Thanks everyone, I just wasn't sure if these would be sufficient.  Now to round out my arsenal, where do I pick up one of those fancy mickey mouse rod/reel?

the Abu C-series are great little reels.
I would add a power handle to it upgrade for saltwater fishing, but that's just my preference.
I have two that I put 20lb and 30lb braid on and they have slayed everything from lings and halibut to white seabass (though that was certainly pushing it). the smooth drag lets them handle fish larger than expected.
for heavy stuff you cant go wrong with the tiger stik rod.
