sarcastic fringehead?

I was fishing in about 60' of water near Capitola on Thursday, and I caught this super-aggressive little guy:



Is it a sarcastic fringehead? It looks similar, but not exactly like the pictures I've seen of SFs. This fish seems to have a forked tail, whereas the tail on the SF is rounded. Also, while this fish does have a big mouth, I don't see the huge "double jointed" sort of thing that the SF is famous for:

Btw, Milton Love, author of Probably More Than You Want to Know About the Fishes of the Pacific Coast, says that the sarcastic fringehead should be the state fish of California. I don't know about that, but it would sure be a good mascot for this forum...

Hard to tell just from that video, but could be a one-spot fringehead. They don't have forked tails either, but from what I could see in the video it kind of looked like the tail was split rather than forked.

That's probably it---it definitely had the one spot as in this picture:

The tail is clearly split, but as you say, that might have just been due to damage.
