I know there is a few of us hoping to head across Hwy 20 around Clear Lake to get over to Albion.

Heads up!  I just checked Caltrans updated website this morning and it appears they have finally shutdown Hwy 20 from 53 to I-5 while they battle that Lake County fire.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it opens back up before Weds. or it will mean a longer trip for me.

See you there!

Hwy 128, Winters off of the 505 to the coast.  Only adds 50 additional miles to your drive.

Only?  That's an eternity when you have an NCKA gathering on the other end.  :smt002

We are going to play it safe and go I80 to 12 to 101... Don't chance it on the 20 run because It is a MESS over there. Smoke, fire equipment and personnel, closures, Traffic...
my new name should be Ostridge. Got my head in the sand. Going fishing and letting go of the other stuff I can't control anyway!

Last Report is 54,000 acres and only 5% contained. I would not plan on them opening the highway by Wednesday. I wish the Fire Fighters that I meet, going to this fire Good Luck and safe travels.

I had to come back that way a couple years back, and it's 50 miles of pure hell.  No way I would do it towing a trailer.  Plus they have there own fire up there.  It will probably be 80 to 12 to 101 for me, unless 20 opens back up.

60000 acres with 12% so maybe if your guys get lucky by Wednesday, but I would just plan on going around traffic will suck.

From what I understand from people in the area, 20 has basically been the firefighters' tactical lifeline to move equipment and personnel. Once the highway officially closed, it became a raceway of firefighting traffic. It seems unlikely that it'll reopen by Wednesday, especially given how close it is to the fire line. Fringe crossed for all involved.

60K acres is almost 94 square miles. The whole area over there on the 20 corridor, 16 and 53 is closed.

For more information including road closures, see :
