I just want to get the word out to new members who aren't aware of these events.  Its old for some and new to others.

Yeah being hit by a GWS has a lot to do with my personal reasons.

I joined the NCKA brotherhood not too long ago, maybe a little over a month maybe less and have not got the chance to read old topics. there are a ton of stuff. from shark incidents to other safety related issues. I applaud you for bringing this up so I can read and understand the risk of ocean fishing. I am not a newbie and certainly not a pro on the water but I do have some experience. Until we are put into that situation where our life is in danger that we understand what that person went through. Until just recently I don't even know how to use a Marine Radio or what channel to use for distress call. All i knew was 69.

Keep posting old and new topics where newbies can read. It doesn't bother me if I see old topic. it's just a click away to other topic.

The thing is, this original post by Frank has nothing to do with sharks.

+1 How come every thread about Bean Hollow gets hijacked into one about GWS?

what is does have is everything to do with being prepared for a flooded yak, among other important points.

+1 What happened to Frank can happen anywhere, even on freshwater. You must know your limits and be prepared for anything, including a sinking kayak.

Thanks for posting the older BH threads.  I haven't fished BH, and I'm still on the fence about whether I will.  But, I appreciate those with knowledge sharing their experiences both good and bad.  It's a tempting place to fish but it sounds like it'll punish the foolhardy in multiple ways.

I understand why FishingAddict is posting the older threads, and I understand where he's coming from when he does it... ain't nothing but love.  Thank you Mel.

Thanks for posting this FishingAddict.  There are certain safety precautions NCKA preaches religiously.  PFD, VHF, buddy, secondary floatation.  It probably wasn't always the case.  These stories are the reasons we take the precautions.  I see all kinds of people in the ocean on kayaks without wetsuits, pfds and any other safety gear.  I don't think they are all idiots, just uninformed.  It's up to us to inform them.

I am very relieved and happy that Frankfishing's archived article still benefits a lot of folks here.

I got this touching and heartfelt felt PM from eelkram last night.  Mark, my friend, its so eloquent I know you won't  mind me sharing it.  I know you are a cop and thanks for sharing that you are a combat vet too. :smt006

Hey Mel,

I just wanted to say thanks for posting the older BH threads. Time makes the old stories fade away and dim in our memory.  It's a needed reminder, and I appreciate it.

I've never seen a gws in the wild, and I hope never to see one let alone share in your type of experience.  But as a combat veteran and as a police officer, I know what it's like to look into the eyes of death, and I know when I talk about it, some people just don't get it.

I just wanted to say that I understand why you're posting it and where you're coming from and I thank you for it.
