What type of sabiki or rig is best for jigging up squid ? Have caught squid on larger sabiki's. Was curious what people had better luck with ?

Thanks,
Alex

Squid catcher.

Works really well when the squid is thick or on the bottom.

That's what I would like to know.  How does that thing catch squid?

I actually have one of those new in the box that is almost 2 ft long. Bought it like 5 years ago when they were catching humbolt squid here in the Monterey bay. Never got a chance to use it.  :smt010

I like to find a shoal of squid about 10,000 strong in 900' of water or so. I'll put a 1lb. ball on the bottom of the war club and send it to the bottom, then come up about 20 cranks and jig. Feel a solid weight and start cranking up. After a while dudes start bringing them to the surface and the shoal comes up to 300'-surface, that's when the gettin is good, dudes getting jetted and inked and the occasional bite on the hand, gaffs flying etc.

Of course, I believe we're thinking of two different types of squid :smt001

Seriously though, this rig looks perfect for market squid. However, I would absolutely throw a small treble hook or two stinger below each jig on the line.
