I managed to tear 2 (of the 3 on my AI) Hobie rubber mesh pockets yesterday. It would cost nearly $50 to replace them, which seems crazy expensive, even by Hobie standards. Has anybody found an alternative (cheaper) material that works well? On the Hobie forum, somebody cut up a rubber landing net, and I'm sure that would work, but I don't have one to cut up...

Can you just loop a zip tie through the upper section that ripped, and screw into the tag end with the uppermost screw as a simple repair? Mine have the same problem and they've been flopping around for the better part of a year, but I have contemplated the zip tie fix...

Mine are not the fancy rubberized ones, but the elastic top has been shot for a long time now, they sag so sadly, but still hold the stuff I jam in there.  I wanted to replace them as well, but not at that price.  There are a lot of possible alternatives out there other than the hobie if you just generally search for 'net mesh pocket' that might work?

If you don't need it to be stretchy, you could form a piece of kydex to the shape you want and then just mount in place with the screws around the frame. Could cut holes in it to suit your needs, either for sticking things or just for visibility/drainage.

Or, could also weave some thin bungee cord into a pocket type thing.

When I had the non-rubber pockets, every hook in the boat would find them. I thought rubber pockets were a good upgrade, but there’s got to be a cheaper way…

A zip tie might work, but a thin bungee cord might be better. I think I’ll give that a try…

Let us know. I may be inspired to try that too.
