Hello y'all,

Me (Jason) and my wife (Theresa) moved to Monterey last year for me to complete my graduate degree in Marine Science at CSUMB. Two months ago a buddy of mine took me out kayak fishing and I was "hooked." Since then, I've scraped together some $$$ and began to accumulate some of the essential gear (kayak, pfd, rod/reel) and am loving my new hobby and the sport itself; it really makes me feel more connected to the ocean and the work I am pursuing. So far, I've caught mainly rockfish, cabezon and a couple weeks ago got my first lingcod. I've fished at Stillwater cove, Monterey Bay near Monterey Kayaks, and at Ocean and Coral down in PG. My friend turned me onto 4-6 oz. metal jigs and they are working great. I look forward to meeting y'all  <*((((><

BTW: Money is tight, but I would really like to get my wife and me each a pair of farmer john/jane wetsuits to wear out on the water. Any ideas?

Thank you <><

WTTM.

I think you need 10 posts before you can see most of the good stuff. So, just respond a lot to this thread and you'll be there.
Are you pondering what I’m pondering?

Thanks for the suggestion :)

I removed my question--"where are the classifieds?"--because after posting my introduction the classified section magically popped up.

After 10 posts, the "members only" fishing reports/hookups will show up, and you definitely want to see that...

Welcome Jason!
I fish the Monterey area most of the time so we'll definitely see each other.
Also get hooked up with Alien. He's there daily coz he works in the area. He's become my intel.

Welcome Jason, from another fellow kayak fishing newbie as well.  I too moved to this area with my wife last year from the Silicon Valley.  Beware though, fishing is extremely addictive, as I've been an addict for quite some time now, but never from a kayak.

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome.

Huge blessing today....
Found used farmer john wetsuit for myself at Monterey Kayaks in Moss Landing for $20.00; hardly worn. For my wife, I picked her up a brand new pair. Not only that, but we also scored 3 rods and 2 reels (one a Penn Long Beach 65) at a yard sale this morning <><

Cant wait to get out on the water w/our new gear <*((((><
