Just completed kick-off meeting with Anthony Schuman, West Coast Coordinator for HOW.

We are now a designated HOW chapter. We can start ramping up, do some fundraising and plan future events. Anthony is going to help us get our official Shasta HOW Facebook page up and running. I have a real appreciation now for what Don and all the rest of NorCal HOW volunteers have accomplished.

If you are interested in helping with event planning, fund raising, contacting businesses for donations of equipment, searching for venues, being part of the leadership team, guiding, food prep, set-up, clean-up etc. please let me know.

We have already been invited back to Lake California to host an event next spring.

Need to get together soon and discuss timing and possible locations for Sept./Oct. (Those who attended on May 1 talked about holding events in the spring and fall when it is cooler. 107 degrees here today).

You can call me any time 410-310-1586 or email blr.rusk@gmail.com.

Right on Bryan. I'm down for whatever needs to be done. October is usually a great month at Shasta; low boat traffic and a lot of trout and bass to be had easily. It would be cool to run a fish taco fry right after a morning of fishing. I'm sure the lake will be as low this year as it was last and the bass fishing right off the low water ramp at centimudi was stellar. I caught a few good limits of trout there last year and I think that this year will be really good for holdover trout because of the conditions. Plenty of parking right at the water and both species of fish should be within a couple hundred yards of the ramp.

Don, I got a call from someone at the VA in Chico about arranging rides to Redding, I am thinking we might find some Chico/Oroville people and set an event up there  some day. In between the two HOW groups.

Shasta this fall would be good. Whiskeytown is another option, we can pick a date and place soon and start planning. Thinking we should have a HOW get together somewhere in Redding.

Right on indeed, well done guys!  I'm down for helping anyway needed.
If Shasta is on the list for the fall, we need to get in touch with the Forest Service ASAP to get the permit.  It took 6 months for me to get the special use permit to hold a Hobie First Cast day on the lake, kind of a nightmare.  Maybe we can meet up for pizza/beer to throw some ideas around?

I can get a smokin deal on pizza and beer at the old millhouse deli on Friday and Saturday nights :smt001. It's generally after a long afternoon of kokes and bass as well...

How does everyone's schedule look for next Fri/Sat the 19th or 20th for a meeting?

I am okay with fishing in the morning and meeting for lunch or meet either evening.

A couple other things, our official HOW name is "Heroes on the Water - Shasta California Chapter" this is what will be used for social media, crowd funding, press, etc. casual conversation "Shasta HOW". (Part of HOW's growth, the new chapter naming standard format).

Next week will be working on our facebook page, this also requires following HOW's standard format.

Only other things are no alcohol at events and all volunteers and participants must wear PDF's when on the water.

Otherwise we are free to come up with ideas, move forward as we see fit. All monies raised come right back to the local chapter.  Need to brainstorm, approach local businesses, talk to your friends and family. We want to eventually own our own trailer, kayaks, rods/reels and tackle plus borrow as many of those items as we can as needed.
