This Sunday, May 24th, our 3rd stop of the Western Kayak Bass Series will be held at Lake Amador. Lake Amador is only an hour away from Sacramento and Stockton and two hours or less from the Bay Area.
Heavily stocked with rainbow trout, Amador is chock full of large bass that feed on these trout regularly! If there is ever a lake to toss around a trout imitating swimbait, this lake is it!
An early morning topwater bite is suspected to take place that may possibly even go on into the day as the fish are most likely post-spawn. Good baits to choose might be something like a Heddon Zara Spook, or Lobina Lures Rico. There is nothing like watching a big-ole bass come up and exploding on your bait! As the day progresses and the sun comes out, the jig, soft plastics and other more finesse type techniques may become more of a factor. For a jig, try colors like brown and green pumpkin which tend to be the more popular colors in the foothill lakes. Senkos and other stick type baits should never be overlooked in the reservoirs either as they produce fish just about anywhere that fish live! If things and conditions are super tough don’t be afraid to toss around a 4 to 6 inch worm like the Roboworm “Alive Shad” on a drop shot or a Texas Rigged Fat Straight Tail. Purples, Greens, and Shad colors are always a good choice with soft plastics.
Wes Jones will be at the lodge taking last minute sign ups starting at 5 am. We hope to have everyone off and fishing by 6 am. This event is looking to be a lot of fun and we look forward to seeing you out there!

Bill, while that is quite the Fish Sniffer pose, that fish was a hog - something like 14 lbs.  Amador posted it on their FB page a while back and it created quite the controversy because the fellow kept it.

For sure a good fish!  Not questioning that point one bit!

Certain poses with fish tend to make me want to discredit the actual size/weight knowing how inflated holding the fish at arms length towards the camera can make it appear.  This one was a good fish never the less!
