Hey Guys,

My name is Paul. I decided to spoil myself with a used Malibu X-factor Kayak as a graduation present to myself last weekend.  I just graduated from San Jose State University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering :smt004. Now is the time to satisfy my craving for my favorite activity, FISHING. Looking forward to transitioning from shore fishing to the endless opportunities of a kayak. I usually go deep sea fishing couple times a year off the Farallon islands for lingcod and rockfish but this will be a completely new experience.

Summing up, I am excited to be on the boards officially and hoping to meet up with some fishing partners from the different areas, learning and having good time with other fisherman who share the same passion I have for this sport.

Heres my kayak and pic of the last fish I caught

next on the buy list is

1) life jacket
2) paddle
3) seat
4)fish finder

Anybody got some suggestions?

Welcome to the madness Paul  :smt006 If you going to kayak fishing in salt water I strongly suggest getting a wetsuit or dry suit, a Marine radio and taking a kayak class.

Radios can be very tricky. I have a Midland Nautico III. 5 watts water proof. I found it for 50$ new on amazon. Something with atleast 3 watts of power water proof or resistant possibly floating. And has all the US channels would be my suggestion.  Generally the run from 35$ to 200$ for a handheld. Some have a ton of features, my preference is for essential function and not too many extras.
I only fish on days that end with Y
