I am thinking of getting back into kayak fishing as my oldest boy is ready to join me.  A tandem would make me more comfortable so I can watch him closely.  I have a Hobie Adventure now so I figured the Hobie tandem would be perfect.

I was at Mel Cotton's yesterday checking out the latest and greatest.  The seats look very comfortable and the boats seem like they are loaded with the updated fins and rudder.  Almost had a heart attack when I saw the price!!!  $3400!  Are you fricken kidding me???

Eiboh had a post in the For Sale section for an older model tandem mirage.  $1000.  You'd need another $500 for a second mirage drive (his only has one), but that would be a pretty good price for a tandem, mirage-powered yak.

I thought about it for my son and I, but can't figure where I'd store it at the house.

Hi Kevin,

I bought a 2014 Hobie Oasis Tandem. Most of the times I use it by myself and having a lots of extra room is really great for crabbing and hauling the traps on board. I sometimes have taken my older son out with me, but he lives in Berlin with his wife now and is only back once a year. The Oasis Tandem is very stable and can move very fast even with one kayaker and there is a lot of storage in the front and in the hull.
I am now rigging my Hobie up with a sail and I'm almost done with the install.
It seems like it cost a lot, but if you and your son are planning on going out together, I think that it is a good investment.
Here's a pic of my Hobie Oasis Tandem with my older son Jonah after we dropped some crab traps at Half Moon Bay in January 2015.
We ended up hauiing up 22 legal Dungees and gave some away to so that we ended up with 18 crabs to take home.

If you are in the East Bay, I would be happy to take you out in Alameda, so that you can get a feel for how the kayak handles and moves.

Aloha,
