Hi there.

This is my intro post.
I have a 7 year old child and we both love to ocean fish.  Getting a tandem kayak is a new thing for us, so we are going to take a lesson, get some experience at some lakes,…and, eventually we want to go out and fish in the Capitola/Santa Cruz area.

Ideally, we don't want to go off shore alone, so we would love to meet some fellow kayak anglers.

Greetings.

There's plenty of rockfish and lingcod to be found in the Capitola/SC area, and usually some kayakers out there too.
There's always money in the banana stand.

Thanks for the welcome posts.

Also, thanks, Nowhereman…
I, too, have noticed other kayakers out of Capitola and I know the skiff boat renters, too, are often out there.  I guess my child and I wouldn't be totally alone if we stayed in that vicinity.

I read that many of you carry a kind of walk-talky with different channels, so we can be in touch with other kayakers in the area.  What kind of device is this?  And, is there a preferred channel for kayak anglers?

Thanks!

Yes, this is a critical piece of safety equipment. The kayakers chat on channel 69.

You also want to read up on other safety gear (lots of good info here), and be sure that you can self-rescue before going out on the ocean.
