I will be fishing the monterey bay.
What size Pro Angler 12 or 14 do you recomend.

I've got a Hobie Adventure/Revo 16, and have never pedaled a PA. But, it seems to me that with the PA, your launch options in the Monterey Bay (and elsewhere) will be much more limited as compared to most any other kayak, so you might want to take that into consideration. Just my $0.02, of course...

I can report that my PA14 handles the ocean with confidence.  I don't know what a 12' yak would do in washing machine conditions.  The PA14 also sits 'high' and in the wind, it can be a real chore to get back if you are fighting wind.  You have to pull the Hobie drive pedals before you beach, and just even that short time and distance can be impossible with a PA14 due to how WIDE it is.  With practice, timing and strength, I'm able to get back in with a stiff wind, with the surf helping me along the way.  Sometimes without dumping it!  Ha!

The PA14 will need the fat tired Wheeleze cart made specifically for the PA if you are to have any chance of rolling it on anything other than pavement.  It's a heavy kayak and nothing with smaller tires or less durable frame is going to work.  I've even broken my PA-specific Wheeleze cart.  I've now beefed it up, but it is that heavy and there is that much rolling resistance.  Especially when there's an additional 40 pounds of fish and going up the beach after a day of pedaling all day long.  Don't get caught short of muscle power at the end of the day and can't beach it into the wind, can't wheel it across the beach and up to the parking lot.

Its definitely  heavy i use wheels to get to sand or snow rarely. Only time i use wheels in tahoe is on boat ramps... Did i mention its heavy? Fuck. But on the water its a dream. Nothing else ive been in compares so i got a garage cart and a truck. I rarely lift it. Often drag it... If you head directly into the wind its pretty easy to cruise ... Ive been in up to 80 knot gusts but i dont recommend that ... I ended up laying flat till i got blown to shore and walked it home. I'd marry my PA if shed have me... Thing is a machine for all scenarios. Getting it to the water can be a pain in the ass but longest roll ive done is at bodega probably... Totally worth it.

Go test them first,I had both and prefer the 12 over the 14.but I fish alone a lot so that's why I prefer the 12.if you are always going out with a buddy then the 14 is not bad.but I highly recommend you go and do a side by side comparison.car topping a pa is like car topping a twin mattress by your self.its not just the weight it's the awkward size of it.having a trailer helps alot.
My biggest worry is that my wife(when I'm dead)will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it

I was considering a PA 12 because it looked so cool.  Now, I am new to yak fishing, and because they look so cool I wanted one.  I was talked out of it when making my purchase and ended up with a Outback 12.  After installing the rod holders, larger rectangle hatch, depth finder and battery, and having to lift it into a 4x4 Toyota Tundra with a rack, I'm pretty glad I didn't get one.  I still like the looks of them.  They are cool. As a X diver I remember how it was to scale down a cliff north of Santa Cruz, swim out with my trusty surf mat and pull a limit of ab's just to trudge across the beach and scale the same cliff to get to my car.  It was an effort that would surely kill me today.  My point is, remember after a long day of paddling out, fishing, and paddling in, that boat is going to feel like it is 300 pounds.  So, if I were to get one it would definitely be the 12' model.  As a previous post said, just think how heavy it is going to be if you have a limit of ab's or fish on board.  Have a cold beer ready for your helper.

Depends.  How big of a dude are you?  If you've got the guns, knock yourself out and go big.  Otherwise, start working out because you'll need the muscles for the PA 12 also.  :smt003

Something to consider, lots of guys here on the board that have PAs have modified jet ski trailers to haul them.  Takes a little bit out of having to handle it but it limits your locations to launch.

Try to find a place where you can test drive both.  And then also try an Outback.  You might be pleasantly surprised with the OB and it's not nearly as heavy as PA.  I car top my Outback and put it up there singlehandedly.

Best of luck in your search.

+1

Btw, I do most of my fishing out of the SC harbor. I don't see many PAs out there, and that's gotta be one of the easiest launch sites for such a craft on the Monterey Bay. That's another thing that makes me think it may not be the best choice if you plan to fish in the salt...

Thankyou for all the great advice. I will be test driving both some time in the next week and will remember all the points that have been given. Once i make up the old mine I will post to look for people for more advice about outfitting and maybe hook up and do some fishing.
Thanks again
Take care
