Headed to the East Cape tomorrow for a week and will be doing a good amount of fishing from a yak.  Thinking it'd be worthwhile to bring my vhf on the trip, to be used just in case of emergency.  Wondered if others have done this?

Always bring your VHF   It's saved a few peoples lives

I was on the Eastcape with a radio about two months ago. Everyone there uses channel 12. And 95% was Spanish.

Do you have a line on a kayak? I couldn't find a decent one. The Rancho Leonardo doesn't want to rent to nonguests.
The ones for rent in Las barilles  were slow, faided white from the sun and $100 a day.

Please post a report about Your trip.  I have wanted to stay ar Rancho Leonaro for years.  That whole area just looks so low key compared to other areas..

I'll report (good or bad) when I get back in 9 days.  We're up the coast a ways in Punta Pescadero.  The house we're renting has 4 kayaks, some better than others but none are too great.  Stayed there last year and had a blast.  Didn't stray too far from shore (2 miles at most) but caught a variety and lost/missed a ton.  Scored one small dorado. I'm mostly a fly dude, but this year I'm bringing a combination of both.
