Any tip and/or tricks to remove goop?

I had a visible gap in the sealant on the rear hatch of my 2012 cuda. It was leaking pretty bad in rough water. Do I decided to remove and reseal. Any easy way to remove the old sealant. If not is goop like silicone and won't stick to its self or if I have to can I just add to it. Super thick in all but one spot.

If you get a good grip on one end of that goop strip, you might be able to peel it all up in one piece. Maybe try pliers lined with a shop rag for gripping without cutting/tearing. If not, a putty knife will help...

I would definitely try to get as much of that old material off as possible before laying down new GOOP. It looks very bubbly...
