several years back found his favorite hunting hole. have lost a lot of gear to him. can't seem to get him the 10 feet up away from his hole so I can have a fighting chance to do battle with him. can only locate his hole when kelp grows to ocean's surface. is at the very edge of the kelp bed 70 feet of water. too deep for me to dive down to him and stick him with a speargun freediving. this year I'm going to drop a chum bag with a bag of anchovies 20 feet away from his primary residence. it will be tied to the side of a large weighted coffee can. inside the coffee can will be a light ball I can manipulate so as to make a banging sound. anyone got any pointers ? I'm probably going to release him anyway he's a good breeder.

How many times have you battled this behemoth?

Not to insult your intelligence, but are you sure it was a fish?

love the sarcasm and ribbing . next time I'm on my way to South Lake Tahoe usually pass through Placerville between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. I'll stop by your home away from home totes and we could talk strategies Mr Rice

I have a similar adversary. Mine likes to break hooks.  My plan is heavier rod and reel. Heavier hooks too. I want to see this thing, not eat it. I am gonna winch it up for a picture.
I only fish on days that end with Y
