DIY Hobie crank arms v3.0

Ideally, I want my crank arms slightly longer (about 15") than the standard 13", and I'd like to have the pedals slightly farther forward than when set to notch 6, but not so far as notch 7. Also, it seems to me that drilling holes for pedals leaves the metal a bit thin on a 3/4" bar---definitely much thinner than on any bicycle pedals I've seen. So, here's how I dealt with all of these things.

I bought a 1.5" x 3/4" x 30" bar of 7075-T6 aluminum and got someone to cut it into a pair of 15" pieces that are 3/4" x 3/4", except for the very top of each, which is 1.5" x 1.5".

I've used them a few times, and my knees seem to appreciate the difference...

I think the hole size, 9/16, for bike pedals leaves plenty of metal strength. I have never heard of a Hobie solid V1 arm breaking at the pedal mount. I believe Hobie used 6061 grade aluminum. I did set up a pair of 15 inch arms and tried them out but saw no benefit for me. For very long legged individuals it could be a plus.

I forgot to mention that as a future upgrade, I was thinking about sharpening the leading edges into mini tomahawks, in case I'm attacked by a shark or sea lion.
