After several years now of going to my National Guard Drills early on Saturday mornings I have come to the conclusion that there is 99% chance that if you see me post that I am going to drill that weeked. that at 0500 on that particular Saturday weather conditions for the Brisbane tubes, and Oyster Point will be like a crystal clear pond, wind will be virtually non existant, tide will be perfect, and I am willing to bet the damn fishing report will be off the charts.

Since December of 2007 I have been making the trek from San Mateo to Santa Rosa, via hwy 101.  Sometimes as early as 4:00 AM or as late as 5:30 AM, never have the condition been anything less than favorable.  Now I have been out there a few times when I want to fish it, and I would rather paddle into an industrial fan, cause thats what it feels like out there, but put me in the Army combat Uniform, and the heavens part, and conditions are perfect.

Does anyone else have a place that plays mental tricks on you like that?

Well, I've fish oyster point and the tubes both lagoon and bay, mirror conditions rare to non existent. Its always windy hence wind waves creates muddy water, best to fish it specially the tubes is within minus tide at least from my exprienced, I lived around Silver and Excelsior district, so I'm close. Hope that helps.

There are days I wish I never left the TXARNG.  Miss my old unit in El Paso, something about being a Redleg, it never gets old.  There was a period that the only real combat arms units at Fort Bliss were a National Guard Unit and a Marine Reserve Unit, both were...Field Artillery.  Our BDE did their annual training out at Dona Anna Range every year.  talk about kicking up dust, good times!

On Saturday at 0503 that is 5:03 for you civilians...lol I passed over the brisbane tubes while heading North to Santa Rosa, conditions...Flat as can be for as far as I could see.  Proof positive the National Gurd can help your fishing, not mine, but yours.

Squidder - You working this Sunday? I'm hoping you can make some glassy conditions for me out at Oyster Point. I hear the halibut are on the chew...

UVR.
Wind would kick up at 1:15. I could set my watch to it...unless I went there to sail board.
FAC conditions. Unless on the rare occasion the wind would kick up and I'd get to the other side of the lake, jibe, then the wind turned off leaving me to furl the sail, lay it on the board and arm paddle back.
Got to where I would just hit Rio Vista instead.
Now if I bring the kayak to UVR..1:15 guaranteed wind.
