Hello,
I'm hoping to get some intel on the American. Specifically, I'm trying to find out if the Upper Sunrise area has shad and whether that section of the river is fishable. I planned to park at the Upper Sunrise lot and possibly launch at the ramp and go up. If things look good, I'm planning to come up and fish in the afternoon/evening tomorrow Friday. Any info you can provide is appreciated.

Thank you,
ernest

I have not seen shad from gristmill to Howe all week.  Perhaps Sunrise or Sailor is better.

My advice: Go striper fishing if you don't get any solid shad intel.

Does it mean it's too late this season?

Mike, are saying you know there are fish at the Sailors Bar, or just go try there?

They are there....fished below hazel last night for an hour.  Caught 5, with a couple big females in the mix.  Used a pink jig under a bobber.

I went last Friday. Launched at Upper Sunrise and went up to the Sailor. Fished til sunset. Only two spots along that stretch produced fish. I ended up with hooking 5 fish, all on flies and all small males. Couldn't hook any on my spinning rig, mostly because I didn't want to fish near the shore anglers.

Two years ago when I floated down that stretch of the river at sunset, I saw no less than 100 ppl hooking up. This year, I saw no one hooking up. Like I said, only two spots in that stretch of the river were producing fish.
