Thanks for posting the video.  It brought back great memories of the many shorter trips I've done on the route - all but one section.  We spend too much time fishing to do the whole thing at one go! Rainbows, brookies, browns, golden trout, even a few small cutthroats took our flies.   I was very impressed at how early you made it to the top -- obviously a good call.  Congratulations.  Andy.

Amazing that it looks like less snow this year than there was in 2000 when I did it, and I finished August 4.

What was your favorite section?  For me it was evolution valley. Was that VVR and is the lake really that low already?

Sincerely,

Jim

Dying to get down there. Let me know when the vis is ok. I'm going to be doing FD stuff Tuesdays-Thursday + whatever shifts I get scheduled elsewhere soon. Hoping I get to sneak down for at least 2-3 days before school starts and i'm packed again.

I would rather walk to evolution 100 more times before any other section. I felt like I couldn't breathe it was so beautiful. Like stepping into the lost world. I may have cried  :smt011 :smt044

Yes. VVR is almost bone dry. They guy said they've even caught guys stealing water in trucks at night.

Awesome experience... except the shaky suspension bridge at day 12. That's a 12 day hike back to the start for me. Thanks for sharing your video!

I think the Video was better with out the music. I've had lung problems all my life and you know how a person feels with breathing problems. Was the boat ride at Edison Lake? I was there last yr about this time. A cinnamon color black bear and I crossed paths there. Neither the bear no I was paying attention I was close enough to see the pupils in his eyes.Loved the Hail and I think I heard thunder at one point.  GREAT JOB!! :smt006

Did that hike in '13. Went south to north. Spent 4th of July weekend this year g9ing over Seldan pass to Marie Lake and Seven Gables. Heading out on High Sierra Trail in August. Amazing country back up in there. Never get tired of views. We are extremely lucky to have such beauty in our backyard. Thanks for sharing video.

Yes that was Edison lake.

There was crazy lightning and thunder. Was bummed my camera with the waterproof case didn't pick it up. I recorder some good ones but it didn't turn out good.

That bridge was awesome. Felt like it was built strong but had a ton of swing in it. Played there for a while.

Yes the permits are hard. So many people doing it now. I got screwed a bit. Planned on leaving 6/1 and found out last minute there are no more walk up permits and had to reschedule.

I did it two summers back and got walk up permits in Yosemite no problem. Are they discontinuing walk up permits on the jmt? Amazing trip though and the fishing is epic in many places but many lakes only have little stunted trout. Got one brown over 18". Also got 6" of fresh powder summiting Whitney. Glad you had a great trip and thanks for sharing the footage. Hopefully others that have wanted to go make the time, it shouldn't be missed!

The new permit system is for exiting the park. You need an exit permit for Donahue Pass. Walk ups are only available for Toulumne Meadows.

Quote
Beginning in February 2, 2015, Yosemite National Park will only issue wilderness permits valid for exiting Yosemite via Donahue Pass (the pass over which the JMT exits Yosemite) for up to 45 people per day. Of these, 25 will be available for permits using the Lyell Canyon trailhead (60% reservable, 40% first- come, first-served). The remaining 20 will be available for Happy Isles to Little Yosemite Valley, Happy Isles pass-through, Glacier Point to Little Yosemite Valley, and Sunrise Lakes trailheads (100% reservable).
